Born July 9, 1946 in Glens Falls, NY, he was the son of the late Frank and Medora (Beagle) Petteys.
Richard graduated from South Glens Falls High School class of 1964, and then proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps from 1966-1968 as a diesel mechanic. Upon his return home, he was employed by Harder Silo and Finch Pruyn Paper Company. He was also a lifetime member of the Gansevoort Volunteer Fire Department.
Richard enjoyed classic country music, hunting and fishing, and even participated in his lifelong dream of a moose hunt. He could often be found grabbing a coffee and a scratch-off ticket at Stewarts and enjoying the camraderie there. He loved to “go check the roads” and take long car rides. Richard had his own special seat at Rozey’s and enjoyed socializing with his friends there who became like family. He was always the life of the party with a wonderful sense of humor who will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his parents, Richard was predeceased by his sister-in-law, Beverly Petteys.
Left to cherish his memory are his siblings, Neil Petteys (Billee), Melvin Petteys, and Daniel Petteys (Sandy), his nieces and nephews, David Petteys (Yana), Matthew Petteys (Katherine), Rachel Randolph (Tim), Megan Petteys (Kevin), Daniel R. Petteys (Heidi), and Shawn Petteys (Gwen), his great-nieces and nephews, Sophia, Bennett, Collette, Barrett, Lila, Cole, Kayleighonia, and Alora, his special friends Bob and Leslie Max, his “crew” at Rozey’s, as well as many neighbors and friends who were always willing to help him out.
