Barley - Carolyn Joyce Barley, age 68, of St. John’s, Florida passed away peacefully on July 13, 2024, at Baptist South Center for Caring with her loving family by her side. She was born in Athens, Alabama on March 17, 1956, to the late Cloyde Mason Newby, Jr. and Mary Frances Elmore Newby. Carolyn was raised in Athens, Alabama and graduated from Athens High School in 1974. Following school, she worked a few years until finding her career at First State Bank in Decatur, Alabama where she met her best friend and forever companion, Billy Ray Barley, Jr. Carolyn and Billy were happily married on December 15, 1984, and have enjoyed the past 40 years of marriage. Carolyn was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, and friend to many. After many years of service at the bank, Carolyn enjoyed her time at General Motors for nearly 10 years and found her true calling in real estate. She started as a secretary and earned her Real Estate license, which was an accomplishment she was very proud to achieve. Carolyn also enjoyed her time at Landstar Trucking in their Administrative department where she assisted with their payroll. Carolyn and Billy resided in Decatur, Alabama for many years, but also resided in Lexington, Kentucky, and Macon, Georgia, until making Jacksonville their home in 1995. When not working, Carolyn loved attending Creekside Christian Church, reading and solving mystery novels. Carolyns main passion in life was her family. She adored and cherished her children and grandchildren, and certainly loved making precious memories with them. Carolyn loved traveling, shopping, going to theme parks, and watching movies, but most of all, time with her family was most important. Her sweet spirit and caring nature brought much joy to those around her. Carolyn was greatly loved and will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Gilbert Newby; and sister, Mary Jean Duncan.

Carolyn is survived by her loving husband, Billy Ray Barley, Jr. of St. John’s, FL; children, Michael (Kelley) Fain of Macon, GA, William Brett Barley of Jacksonville, FL, Whitney (Stephen) Niedzwiecki of St. John’s, FL, Shellee Rae (Mark) Blaxton of Decatur, AL, and Clint (Diane) Barley of Anniston, AL; brother, Mike (Brenda) Newby of Athens, AL; grandchildren, Kira Fain, Kaiden Fain, Kinsley Fain, Skyler Niedzwiecki, Emma Niedzwiecki, Braxton Barley, Davis Barley, Brooklynn Barley, Brooks Blaxton, and John Allen Blaxton; and several extended family members and friends.

A Celebration of Carolyn’s Life will be held on Wednesday, July 17, 2024, at 3:00 pm at Beaches Memorial Park Chapel with Pastor Chuck Peterman officiating. The family will receive friends on Wednesday an hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Jacksonville National Cemetery.
