Sister Jeanne Margaret McNally was born in New York, New York on November 22, 1931, daughter of Edward Joseph McNally and Margaret Elizabeth Weyland both of New York. Sister died at Sacred Heart Convent, Belmont, NC. July 6, 2024
A Sister of Mercy for 75 years, Sister Jeanne Margaret was a Nurse, Psychologist, a Canon Lawyer and a leader within the community and Church.
Sister Jeanne Margaret attended St Jean the Baptist High School in New York. After joining the Sisters of Mercy in Belmont, NC she later received an A.S. in Nursing, (Sacred Heart College - Belmont, NC), RN (Mercy Hospital, Charlotte, NC), B.S. and M.S. in Nursing as well as a PH. D in Psychology and J.C.L in Canon Law (Catholic University, Washington DC). She also received an Administration Certificate (UNC- Chapel Hill), Psychology Certificate (Harvard, Cambridge, Mass.) Canon Law Certificate (Nova Southeastern University, Davie, Florida). Honorary Doctorate (Sacred Heart College, Belmont, N.C.)
Sister Jeanne Margaret’s spiritual motto was: What Is This In Eternity. Sister lived this as a nurse, an elected regional councilor and president for 13 years. She served on many boards and was well known as a Canon Lawyer in the Diocese of Miami (Miami, Fl.) and the Diocese of Charlotte, Charlotte, N.C.). Among her Sisters she was a well-known storyteller and an advocate for higher education.
Sister Jeanne Margaret loved all the people she served throughout her life. She especially enjoyed working with the Novices at Belmont Abbey Monastery in Belmont, N.C. and helping people understand the teachings and laws of the Catholic Church.
Sister died peacefully at Sacred Heart Convent, Marian Center in Belmont, NC.
Sister Jeanne Margaret is preceded in death by her parents, and her sister, Patricia.
She is survived by her many family members and a Community of Sisters of Mercy.

Staff and Nurses as well as The Alumni of Mercy School of Nursing - Class of 1967 for their years of devotion to Sister Jeanne Margaret.

Funeral Arrangements are as follows: Saturday: July 20, 2024 a Mass of Christian Burial will be held beginning at 11:00 AM in Cardinal Gibbons Chapel at Sacred Heart Convent, 500 Sacred Heart Circle, Belmont, NC 28012.
