Eleanor C Chervanik Obituary

Eleanor Caroline Chervanik (West), 93, of Sunbury, entered peacefully into eternal rest on Saturday, July 6, 2024, at Evangelical Community Hospital in Lewisburg.

Eleanor was born on July 2, 1931, in Danville to Parents Walter O. West and Sarah A. (Eckert) West of Mooresburg Pa. Eleanor was one of 12 children and attended Danville schools, graduating from Danville High School in 1949. After graduation, Eleanor worked at Geisinger Hospital in Danville in dietary and secretarial positions.

On May 18, 1955, Eleanor married the love of her life, Sgt. Albert G. Chervanik at St. Michaels Catholic Church in Sunbury Pa.. They celebrated 61 years of marriage until Al's death in 2016. Together they raised three children, Mary Ann, Karen and Albert W., while traveling around the country and Germany with the Army. They finally settled in Sunbury, Pa., after Al's retirement.

Eleanor was an avid knitter, reader, crossword puzzler as well as being a part of her crazy Red Hat Society besties, Nancy, Pat, Marge, Joy, Saundra, whom she loved dearly. Eleanor also cherished her vacations away with Sisters Marge and Jean over the years. She especially enjoyed sitting on her porch swing.

Eleanor is survived by daughters Mary Ann Chervanik, Sunbury and Karen L. Kremer (Jeffry), Sunbury; daughter-in-law Melanie Attinger Chervanik, Sunbury; granddaughters Sydney P. Chervanik and companion Kayin Herb, of Bloomsburg, Marissa L. Hoffman Teisher (Joseph), of Sunbury, as well as great-grandchildren, Carter and Mila Teisher, of Sunbury; sister Dorothy Jean Roup (George), Danville; many nieces and nephews on both the West and Chervanik sides; and her special cat, Tiger Lilley.

Eleanor was preceded in death by her husband, Al; son, Albert W. Chervanik; grandsons Christopher Staffaroni and Ezra Chervanik, both in infancy; her parents; sisters May (Murray) Hackenburg and Marge Chappell; and 8 brothers William, Charles, George, Donald, Walter, Robert and Dale as well as Raymond in infancy and all in-laws in the Chervanik Family.

There will be a viewing and service at the Blank Funeral Home, 395 State St., Sunbury on Thursday, July 11 from 10-11 a.m. with service at 11, family and friends are welcome. A private burial will be held in Pomfret Manor Cemetary, Sunbury.
