Mr. Calvin Bruno Holmes Obituary

Calvin Bruno Holmes was born on May 17, 1964, at Colleton Medical Center in Colleton County, Walterboro, South Carolina to Artie M. Nesbitt-Holmes and Charles E. Holmes. He transitioned peacefully on Wednesday, July 3, 2024, at Ashley River Tower, MUSC, Charleston, South Carolina.

He attended the public schools of Colleton County and graduated from Walterboro High School in Walterboro, South Carolina. 

Calvin was always in the work field. He started out working at a gas station and cutting yards. As time passed, he became employed with the Colleton County Sheriff Department, Volunteer Fire Department and Coastal Lumber Company as an operator for twenty-four years.

Calvin joined Calvary A.M.E. Church at an early age under Minister Johnnie Williams and manually helped build Greater Calvary A.M.E. Church under Minister Leroy Middleton.

Calvin enjoyed many activities: baseball, fishing, hunting, bicycling and just meeting people.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Holmes, Jr.; grandfathers, Alphonzo Nesbitt, Ben Holmes ; and grandmothers, Ovedia Mitchell-Smalls, Carrie Pinckney Holmes.

Calvin left so soon to cherish his loving memories his parents, Artie M. Nesbitt-Holmes of Jacksonboro, South Carolina and Charles Edward Holmes of Walterboro, South Carolina; four children, Quentin Holmes of Charlotte, North Carolina, Calvin M. Holmes (Shania) of York, South Carolina, Cory Holmes of Walterboro,South Carolina, Lakeria Thompson (Antwain) of Cottageville, South Carolina; grandchildren, Quentin Jr., Xaire, Ziare, Torren, Desiree, Kolaja, Ja’mir, Antwaun, Landyn,Karson, and Quari; five siblings, Gary Holmes (Charleen), Shelia Brewer of Walterboro, South Carolina, Jennifer Holmes of the home, Maurice Holmes of Porthmouth, Virginia and Maureen Holmes of Walterboro, South Carolina and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and classmates, all of whom will miss him from his laughs and jokes.
