Darryl L. Johnson Obituary

DARRYL JERMAINE JOHNSON affectionately known to many as “Jay” was born on October 26, 1972, to Elizabeth Ann Johnson and Charles Dillard in Chicago, IL. Both preceded him in death. As well as his grandparents Buddy & Minnie Johnson, Aunt Claudia Johnson and Uncle Theodius Ward whom also preceded him in death.

Darryl grew up on the Westside of Chicago and from Madison St. to Jackson, Darryl never met a stranger because everyone he ran into, he considered them FAMILY! Darryl began his education at Charles Sumner Elementary School before continuing his education at John Marshall High School and eventually graduating from Manley High School. After finishing high school, Darryl entered the workforce at Pickens Kane Moving & Storage where he worked over 13 years. Darryl enjoyed the finer things in life and worked hard to maintain his lifestyle while providing for his family.

He loved traveling and building things with his hands. Darryl also always had a flare for fashion. He seemed to love dressing up more than going to class. However, he was able to push through between wardrobe changes and when he graduated from high school the WHOLE family attended! He was even voted BEST DRESSED in his senior year.

Darryl often would ask about random people that have crossed his path over the years. We would have to tell him “Jay, I have not seen that person in over 6 years”, but he didn’t care because he figured that the block was FAMILY and if you can’t go anywhere else you can always come back to ADAMS. Darryl also had a creative side to him; he knew how to draw his favorite things, one being model airplanes and he also enjoyed building hot rod cars with materials that he found around the house. Darryl was a leader in many ways, he even created a crew designed for friends so that they could be a part of something unique. Darryl named the crew after the T-Birds from the movie Grease. He only recruited about four members counting himself, but it is a memory that still lives on to this day.

Darryl Johnson and LaTausha Hales joined in Holy Matrimony on August 6, 2003. To this blessed union one son was born, Xavier. Darryl Jermaine Johnson made his transition on Wednesday June 26, 2024. God has seen fit to call him home to receive his just reward.

He leaves to cherish his loving memories: his wife LaTaushaJohnson, one daughter Ashae, three sons, Brandon, Malcolm, and Xavier; four granddaughters, Paiden, Jaiden, Jordan, and Xyla; one Aunt Minnie “Pig” Ward of Chicago, IL, a special friend Yvette Hampton, and very special cousin who is more of a sister, Laquita Ward and host of extended family and friends.
