John "JD" David Boan, Jr. Obituary

John David “JD” Boan, Jr. was 82 years old, he died peacefully at his home in Orangeburg on Wednesday, July 10, 2024.

“JD” was born in Hartsville, S.C. in 1941 to the late Mr. John David Boan, Sr. and the late Mrs. Viola Welch Boan.

He was a kind generous, warm-hearted husband, father, and grandfather that deeply loved the life that he and his wife, Brenda, built together.  “JD” loved feeding the songbirds and hummingbirds and found seasonal beauty in the trees and flowers that were planted next to his swing.  He took pride in grooming his knock-out roses and his daylilies.  Going on adventures to the mountains or the beach with his family were some of his favorite things.  His wife, children and grandchildren brought him tremendous joy.

“JD” was well known in the Orangeburg Community for his work in the seafood industry.  After moving to Orangeburg in his younger years, he began by working with his brother, William “Billy” McPherson at the Dry Dock.  He worked into owning his own seafood market business, the Orangeburg Seafood Market which remained open well into the late 1980’s.  His smile was contagious, and his jolly personality made him well known to his customers.  He was truly loved by all.  After retiring most of his time went into manicuring his lawn and spending time with his family, including his beloved poodle, Dolly.  “JD” was a long-time member of Northside Baptist Church.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his stepmother, Marguerite Boan, his sisters, Henrietta Ghones, Lucy Wimbrem, Lenora Rogers, Dora Ellen Anderson and his stepbrothers, Lavern McPherson and William “Billy” McPherson.

“JD” was married to Brenda Baltzegar Boan for 53 years, they had two sons, Trey Boan (Lindsey) of Sandy Run, Russell Boan (Caitlin) of Cope; four grandchildren, Elizabeth Rayn Boan, Dakota Boan, Reagan Boan, Avis Viola Boan; stepsister, Mary McBride; his beloved fur baby, “Dolly” and a number of nieces, nephews and additional family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, July 12, 2024, at Northside Baptist Church, 1250 Columbia Road, Orangeburg.  Rev. Dr. Shane Stutzman and Rev. Larry Williams will be officiating.  Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery, 2720 Broughton Street, Orangeburg.

The family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00 A.M. on Friday, July 12, 2024, at Northside Baptist Church prior to the funeral service.

Honored to serve as pallbearers are Mike Williams, Rob McCormick, Patrick Mack, Travis Prevatte, Curt Lavender, and Mark Summers.

Memorials may be made in memory of “JD” to Northside Baptist Church at 1250 Columbia Road, Orangeburg, S.C. 29115.
