Sheila Elizabeth Pearson Obituary

With sad hearts, we announce the passing of Sheila Elizabeth Pearson on July 7, 2024, at Ivy House in Invermere BC at the age of 93.

Sheila was born in Cranbrook BC to Jack and Molly Garbutt and lived her early life on a farm at the base of the Rockies near Garbutt Lake (Nordbury Lakes). She went to school in Cranbrook and Nelson BC.

Sheila met a Kimberley boy and married Howie Pearson on September 20, 1952, at Christ Church in Cranbrook BC. She worked at the hardware store in Blarchmont for many years and finished her career at Cominco. After they both retired, they wintered in El Centro California and summered at the cabin at Kootenay Lake.

They started their family in 1955, had three children and then in 1963 got a bit of a surprise when their fourth child turned out to be triplets who were born in June 1964.

Sheila, when she had time, sewed, crocheted and knitted. Her grandbabies were the recipients of sweaters with hoods and zippers down the back for easy on and off.

Sheila was predeceased by her son Bruce in 2015 and her husband Howie in 2016.

She leaves behind her daughter Terry, son Keith, daughter Sandra (Zap), son Scott and daughter Christie (Enzo) plus eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Sheila was blessed to have met many special people later in her life who treated her with care and kindness. Many thanks to the group at the Kimbrook Apartments who met everyday during the covid lock-down and specifically Darlene Thompson who went above and beyond. Many thanks to the staff at Gardenview and a special thanks to Barb Bova who took mom under her wing, showed her the ropes and checked in with her every day. And a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Ivy House where mom spent her final days. You are very special people and your compassion, kindness and humor shine through. The residents are lucky to have you. Thank you to Dr. B. Johnson who made sure that mom was comfortable in her final days.

There will be no service or Celebration of life as per Sheila’s request. Instead, at 4:00 pm pull out the vodka , mix a Caesar and make a toast.
