Margaret "Suzie" Blackburn Hobbs Obituary

Suzie Hobbs of Conway, SC passed away three days after her 79th birthday. For someone who faced numerous trials in life, Suzie was known for her perseverance, grit, and resilience in overcoming adversity. Whether it be surviving without her parents from a very young age, the challenges of single parenthood, or a life-threatening medical diagnosis, she met them all head on with a quick draw finger that could turn any tense situation into laughter.

In life, Suzie had lots of love to give. Her inspiring personality called many into her orbit; whether she was spending time with her family members, phoning lifelong friends, or walking down the neighborhood block. Suzie’s three older siblings, Ennis, Betty, and Richard, were largely responsible for nurturing her care for others and passion for life. Additionally, Suzie’s sisters by marriage, Sara and Lynna, were especially cherished confidants when she needed support. Equally important was her daughter, Melissa, and her husband Steve, who enjoyed countless hours over the years loving and caring for Suzie. Suzie was also a very dedicated grandmother to Kirsten and Dakoda; whether picking up a sick child from school, providing special grandma medicine, or spending weekends at the river together, she always ensured they felt valued and loved. She spent an abundance of her leisure time catching up with friends; Peggy, who was a devoted childhood companion that saw her through all of life’s tribulations, in addition to the many dear neighborhood friends she made during her residential tenure at Noel Villa apartments.

Suzie spent her final moments surrounded by loved ones on Wednesday, July 3, 2024 in the comfort of her home after a lengthy battle with cancer. In passing, she rejoined her beloved family members Betty Blackburn Flynt, Lynna June Blackburn, and Keith Alan Blackburn. Suzie’s celebration of life will take place at Westminster Presbyterian of Conway on Saturday, July 20th, 2024 at 2PM, meal and fellowship immediately following.

Suzie’s family would like to share a special thanks to Dr. Foxx, Reverend Watson Matthews Gunderson, and Burroughs Funeral Home & Cremation Services.

In lieu of flowers, donating to Children’s Hope Alliance (formerly Barium Springs Home for Children) would be an excellent way to honor Suzie’s life.
