Marvin Olson Obituary

Marvin Olson, age 88, of Madison, passed away suddenly at his home on Saturday, July 6, 2024.


Funeral service will be at 10 AM on Saturday, July 13th at Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. Steve Lindley officiating. Visitation will be 5-7 PM on Friday at Rustand-Weiland Funeral Chapel with a prayer service at 7 PM and will continue on Saturday one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow the service in Prairie Queen Cemetery, Nunda.  Military honors provided by Chester American Legion immediately following the service.


Memorials are preferred to Trinity Foundation or Prairie Queen Cemetery.


Marvin Lyle Olson was born November 14, 1935 in Madison, SD, to Carl & Martha (Hemre) Olson. He graduated from Rutland High School in 1953. He completed his undergraduate at General Beadle and then served his country in the US Army in 1957. Marvin attended SDSU and received his Masters in Education. Marvin taught two years at Hartford, one year at Patrick Henry Jr. High, back to Hartford for three more years and finally he was at Chester High for 11 years, where he was a teacher and principal. Many who remember him from Chester will remember that Marvin owned Marvin’s Clover Farm for 16 years or when he worked for Orion Foods for 12 years.


He is survived by his sister, Berna Schaaf of Madison and many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.


Marvin was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Ruth Oftedal, Bernard Olson, Orville Olson and Arvid Olson.
