Ivan Shon Coram Obituary

Ivan Shon Coram was born to Ellen and Gene Coram on Dec. 6th, 1968. “Shon” spent his early years in Kansas City where he developed an obsession with the Chiefs and Royals. He later moved to Callao and went on to graduate from Macon High School in 1986. Shon entered the Marine Corps following high school, where he served until forced into a medical discharge.

Shon worked a variety of jobs over the years including stints at Missouri Book Supply of Columbia and Recycled Rubber of Macon. But it was with the Macon County Home Press that he discovered his passion. Along with his wife Sharon, Shon took over a struggling newspaper and managed to keep it profitable in an age that has not been kind to print media. Last year, Shon and Sharon purchased the rights to the Macon County Home Press from the former owners and were devoted to keeping it solvent for the community.

Though proud of his hometown, Shon and Sharon strived to serve the entire county. This was evidenced by the countless hours attending sporting and community events, taking pictures and writing stories. Shon always had time for the kids he covered, taking time to offer advice about a batting stance or a blocking technique. Shon was devoted to the young athletes he covered and often took pictures for their families at no cost.

Shon is survived by his wife Sharon, their daughter Joslyn, his mother, Ellen, brother Steven Coram (Sherry), and sister Amy Harre (Dustin). He is also survived by his beloved niece and nephews, Stevi Coram, Chad Coram and Jordan Coram, as well as Colby and Connor Harre. Shon was preceded in death by his father, Gene and beloved maternal grandmother, Clara Sharp.

Due to the unexpected nature of his passing, a Gofundme page has been created to help the family deal with hospital and funeral expenses.

The family will accept friends for a Celebration of Shon’s Life on Saturday, July 13, 2024 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at the Elks Lodge in Macon, MO.
