Cathy Jo Mathews Obituary

Cathy J. Mathews, 77 years old, passed into the arms of Jesus on Tuesday July 9, 2024, surrounded by her family and friends. She was born February 10, 1947, at Logansport Cass Memorial Hospital to Paul John Shideler and Rosalie (Ronk) Hutchins. She was raised from a small child by her mother and wonderful father Kenneth R. Hutchins and Rosalie Hutchins. She married the love of her life, Harold Max Mathews on December 3, 1982, and he preceded her in death on November 19, 2010.

She graduated from Kokomo High School. She retired from Delphi Electronics in 2006. She was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church in Kokomo and a member of the Omega Phi Tau Sorority, Chi Chapter, where she served as National President for three terms. She served as Taylor School Corporation as a board member from 2014 to 2022.

Cathy loved to read, solve crossword puzzles, create beautiful cross-stitch pictures for her family and friends, and scrapbooking. Above all else, her top priority was spending time with her family and three best friends, Darla Arnett, Ellie Dobbins, and Darlene Berry.

Cathy is survived by her daughters, Sandra (Betty) Walter of Kokomo, Sherri (Brad) May of Lafayette, Kimberly (Phil) Ferrel of Michigantown; sons, Brian (Monica) Calhoun of Lafayette, Greg (Ruth) Mathews of Lafayette; grandchildren, Leah (Amada) Mathews, Justin (Miranda) Harrington, Ryan Calhoun, Dustin (Annalyssa) Mathews, Joshua (Brooke) Walter, Matthew (Alessa) Ferrel, Courtney Calhoun, Jennifer (Andrew) Sullivan, Nathanial (Delaney) Walter, Taylor (Chelsea) Ferrel, Derrick (Ashlynn) Mathews, Marcus May, Robbie Robbins; great-grandchildren, Maggie, Chloe, Chase, Conner, Gemma, Piper, Kyan, Alyx, Maddison, Gaberial, Mikaila, Mason, Mikhi, Maleigh, Raine, Maxwell, Kolson, Jace, Jax, Josie, Jonas, Julian, Olivia, Emma, Aubrie, Ignacio, Sofia, Adrian, Grayson, Ellis; siblings, Sandra Hulet, Jeffrey Hutchins, Pam Young, Jeff Shideler, Mark Shideler, Paula Jones; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Daniel Hutchins, brother-in-law, Walter “Ike” Hulet.

Friends are invited to visit with the family from 4 to 7 pm Monday July 15, 2024, at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home – Lincoln Road Chapel, 1315 W. Lincoln Rd., Kokomo, IN 46902. Funeral service will be held at 10 am on Tuesday July 16, 2024, at the funeral home, with Pastor Julia Pritchett-Gonzales officiating. Burial will follow in Albright Cemetery.
