Betty Naquin Olivier Obituary

CARENCRO  ~  Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 17, 2024 at 1:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Peter Roman Catholic Church in Carencro for Betty Olivier, age 81, the former Betty Naquin, who passed away Monday, July 8, 2024 at her residence in Carencro.

Interment will be in Evangeline Memorial Gardens in Carencro. Father Neil Pettit will officiate the service. Readers will be Mary Morgan Huebner and Lucille LaFleur. Gift bearers will be Ann Taylor and Martha Olivier. Eucharistic minister for the service will be Michele Naquin.

Betty was a native of Opelousas and a resident of Carencro for the past 46 years, where she was a parishioner of St. Peter Roman Catholic Church. She began her career at Bell South Telephone Company as a Telephone Switchboard Operator using manual technology with electrical cords to establish connections. In 1975, Betty began what became a 44-year career as a Switchboard Operator at Doug Ashy Building Materials, Inc. She retired in 2019. Betty loved the time she spent at Doug Ashy, where she made lifelong memories. We would like to express our deepest gratitude to the Ashy family for their many years of friendship and support.

Betty was adored by her entire family and will be greatly missed. She was known best for her big heart and enjoyment for cooking and entertaining family and friends. Betty was as genuine as they come. A very affectionate and generous person, she was always putting others first, taking care of everyone around her and volunteering her time to assist and provide for retired nuns.

Survivors include her two daughters, Darla Richard (Danny) of Opelousas and Dedra Ashy (Kenneth) of Lafayette; three grandchildren, Cullan Ashy, Daniel Richard, and Dawson Richard; one brother, Curtis Naquin (Michele) of Port Barre; four brothers-in-law, Gary Olivier (Tenly) of Arnaudville, Lynn Olivier (Martha) of Carencro, Guy Castille, and John Morgan; one sister, Lucille LaFleur (Charles) of Port Barre; two sisters-in-law, Ann Taylor (Wilson) and Nell Guidry (Timmy) both of Arnaudville; two godchildren, Scottie Olivier and Klent Moreau.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alex Joseph Olivier; one grandson, David Gabriel Ashy; her two sisters, Linda Castille and Grace Morgan; her parents, Chester and Virginia Naquin; and her brother-in-law, Edwin Olivier.

A rosary will be led by John Morgan at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday in the funeral home.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 4:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. on Tuesday and will reopen from 9:00 a.m. until service time on Wednesday.

Pallbearers will be Cullan Ashy, Daniel Richard, Dawson Richard, Danny Richard, Kenneth Ashy, Colby LaFleur, Dylan Morgan, and Curtis Naquin.

Betty believed in the power of guardian angels and would love it if you said the “Angel of God” prayer in her memory. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Betty’s honor to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105, www.stjude.org or a charity of your choice.
