Dr. John Lee Daniels Obituary

Dr. John L. Daniels, age 91 of Annandale, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 3rd, surrounded by his family. John was survived by his wife of 71 years, Thelma Pitzer Daniels.

John’s daughter, Joan Daniels, predeceased him June 28, 2024. He is survived by his three remaining children, Desiree (Dee) Daniels Harrington, Sandra Daniels, and Lee Daniels.

John was born June 16, 1933 at Runnymeade Farm in Gerrardstown, West Virginia. He was the son of George Daniels and Myrtle Hayes Daniels. He grew up with 4 brothers and 1 sister: Robert “Bobby” Daniels, William “Bill” Daniels, George “Junior” Daniels, Thomas Daniels, and Mildred “Millie” Hayden.

John graduated from Musselman High school in 1952. He married his high school sweetheart, Thelma Pitzer, in 1953, and shortly after enlisted in the US Army.

After serving two years John enrolled at the Potomac State campus of West Virginia University in 1956. Then in 1958, he started dental school at West Virginia University in Morgantown, WV. John graduated in 1962 with a Doctorate of Dental Surgery.

Shortly after completing his education, John and Thelma moved to Annandale, Virginia where he started a successful dental practice until he retired in 1987.

He continued to be active after his retirement by taking up golf, traveling to Florida with Thelma, and spending time on the family farm with his grandchildren, brothers, and nephews. John also used his new found time to study for and complete flight school. He ultimately earned his pilot’s license and enjoyed several years of flying with his buddies.

Thelma and her children want you to know that John was a wonderful husband, father and friend. We will miss him dearly.
