Kenneth Lee Townsend Obituary

Kenneth Lee Townsend, 77, of McCurdysville, WV, passed away on Tuesday, July 9, 2024 at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, WV. He was born February 23, 1947 in Marion County, WV a son of the late Creed and Dona Riffle Townsend. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Sandra G. Arnett Townsend.

Kenneth was a Christian by faith. He was a 1965 graduate of Morgantown High School and completed the Mechanical Trade program at Fairmont State College for mining preparation. Kenneth was a Veteran with the United States Army having served during Vietnam. He was stationed in North Saigon as a mechanic on the flight line.

Kenneth retired in 2002 from Consol Coal Company with over 31 years in the Blacksville #2 Mine as a coal miner and foreman. He had previously worked with Bethlehem Steel at the Barrackville Mines. He was a member of the Morgantown Moose Lodge #264. After retirement, he and his wife enjoyed spending winters in Ellenton, FL where he spent his time playing shuffleboard and cards where he met many close friends.

In addition to his wife, he is also survived by his daughter, Kitty Jo and her husband Scott Hendricks of Hagans Community, his son, Brian Lee and his wife Cyndi Townsend of Farmington, his grandchildren, Logan and Colton Hendricks, Jordan and her husband Billy Miller, and Peydan McVickers, as well as his two great-grandchildren, Maxon and Maddyn Miller. Kenneth is also survived by his brother, Richard Townsend of Farmington, his sister, Freda Kelley of Fairmont, and several special nieces and nephews.

Kenneth was preceded in death by his brothers, Delmas Townsend, Charles E. Townsend, and Bill Townsend, as well as his sister JoAnn Townsend.

The family has entrusted the arrangements to Ford Funeral Home, DeGarmo Chapel, 207 Second Street, Rivesville, WV. Friends and family may visit on Friday, July 12, 2024 from 2PM until 8PM and on Saturday, from 10AM until 11AM. The funeral will be held in the funeral home on Saturday, July 13, 2024 at 11AM with Evangelist Harry Summers officiating. Interment will follow at the Hagans Cemetery in the Hagans Community with graveside military rites held by the Marion County Veterans Council.
