Charlotte Roberts Obituary

Charlotte (CR) Louise Roberts passed away on Monday July 8th, 2024, in the loving care of her family. Charlotte was born on a Cherokee Indian Reservation near Seneca, Oklahoma, on December 4, 1938. Her parents were Howard and Velma Hensley Gilmore. Our mom had four siblings: Barbara Joy Ross, Carolyn Sue Guignard, Vaughn Dean Gilmore, and Lois Marie Gilmore.

Mom moved to Oregon with her family when she was seven years old.

She married Johnny Roberts on August 8, 1956. In a funny turn of events, the doctor who delivered mom was also named John Roberts.

Mom’s legacy is too immense to be captured in words, but we will summarize. She loved with passion, a mother in all senses of the word. She was our rock. She was fiercely protective and quick to forgive. A born peacemaker, healer of hearts and scraped knees. She could fix toys and broken cats and dogs. Our faith in her was limitless. She took care of everyone yet was so very independent that you felt like a hero when she let you do some task or chore. She taught us to be strong and that we could survive anything.

Our home life was never boring. She had activities planned out without the need for a television as a backup. We rode horses, bikes, and motorcycles, and camped out on our own property. We fished and hunted alongside both our parents. We picked huckleberries in the hills early in the morning and had pancakes with the berries when we got home. She gave so much and asked so little, we should all want to be like our mom.

Mom and her sister Carolyn would chat for hours on the phone, laughing and talking about their lives, both past and present. They were born sisters but remained best friends for life. Their bond was strong and resolute.

Mom was preceded in death by her parents Howard and Velma, her siblings Barbara, Vaughn Dean and Lois Maire, husband Johnny, and eldest daughter, Terri Lesage. She is survived by her younger sister Carolyn Guignard, her daughters Cathy Roberts and Sandra Porter, sons-in-law, Mark Lesage, Antonio Espinal and Grant Porter, grandchildren Shannon Willis and spouse Shane, Tyson Hazlett and spouse Maggie, Mike Roberts and spouse Bethany, Joey Roberts and Rochelle Packer, great grandson Aiden Willis, nieces & nephews Jeanie-Guignard-Vieira, Tami Ross-Arthur, and John Ross Jr.

Mom will be laid to rest at Pine Grove Cemetery next to the love of her life Johnny and all her family that have gathered in heaven ahead of her.

Arrangements are under the direction of Anderson's Tribute Center • 1401 Belmont Avenue, Hood River, Oregon 97031.  Visit www.AndersonsTributeCenter.com to leave a note of condolence for the family.
