Ronald Eugene Mitchell Obituary

Ronald Eugene Mitchell, age 71, passed away July 9, 2024, in Mustang, Oklahoma with his family by his side. Ron was born July 25, 1952, in Norman, Oklahoma to Monroe and Dorothy (Hooper) Mitchell. He grew up and graduated from Ada High School. He dedicated his life to serving others, particularly through his distinguished career in law enforcement.

Ron began his journey in public service as a Community Service Officer before joining the Oklahoma City Police Department in 1971. Over the course of his 30-year career, he made significant contributions as a patrol officer, Vice detective, and eventually as a Homicide detective. His commitment to justice extended beyond his regular duties; he also imparted his knowledge and experience as a Certified Instructor in Crime Scene Investigation, teaching for Cleet.

During his tenure with the police department, Ron found love and companionship with Linda (Hooker) Mitchell, whom he married and shared 36 years of marriage with at the time of his passing. Their union was blessed with love and family, including daughters Tammy Garvin and spouse Irene, Marsha Lovelace and her husband Todd, and stepson Ryan Shoopman. Ron adored his grandchildren Derek Garvin and wife Alex, Paige Feuerborn and husband Dakota, Brayden Lovelace and wife Keely, Kyla Lovelace, and Sophie Espinoza, as well as his great-grandchildren Abbi, Eli, and Addison Garvin. If there was a sporting event, play or performance you could count on him to be there. He was one of their biggest fans.

Apart from his family and career, Ron was a longtime member of Crossroads Mustang church. He had a passion for music, particularly playing the guitar and banjo.

Ronald Eugene Mitchell's life was marked by his unwavering love for his family, and his commitment to making a positive impact through his work. His legacy will be cherished by his wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, along with his loving brothers and sister, Bob Mitchell, Nancy Sweeney, and Larry Mitchell, church family, and many friends.

A Memorial Service in honor of Ron will be held on Saturday, July 13th, at 2pm at McNeil’s Funeral Home in Mustang, Oklahoma.
