The chapters of life for Lillian Alease Dale began December 11, 1931.

She was born to Dora Stephens and Clarence Jennings in Lynchburg, Va. Lillian was the youngest of 3 children.

During her early childhood the family moved to Cleveland OH.


Lillian accepted Christ as her personal LORD and Savior at an early age. Lillian moved to Indianapolis in her young adult life during her move she joined Greater Gethsemane Missionary Baptist Church. Where she was a member for 76 years, she participated in the Gospel Chorus, G.G.M.B.C. Prayer Line and other various Ministries. Her favorite scripture was Psalm 121.


Lillian graduated from Central Senior High School located in Cleveland OH. Lillian had various career paths which lead her to becoming an LPN at Methodist Hospital where she was a LPN for Pediatric Unit and was later promoted to various Units within Methodist Hospital. Lillian retired from Methodist Hospital in the late 70’s.


Lillian was married to Thomas Edward Smith Sr. (preceded her in death). They were married 18 years.

The union had 2 children Thomas Edward Smith Jr. (preceded her in death) and Patricia L. Bacon.


Lillian later married James A Dale; they were married for 39 years.
The union enjoyed traveling, listening to music, sitting on the porch and being with family.


Lillian’s hobbies were spending time with her daughter and son-in-love, granddaughters and great grandchildren. She was a SUPER Pacer Fan. She enjoyed baking for the holidays, watching movies, watching her favorite daytime show ‘Young and the Restless’, sharing great advice with her adult granddaughters and spoiling her great grandchildren.


Lillian was preceded in death by her parents Dora Stephens, Clarence Jennings,

Son Thomas E. Smith, Sister Esther Bennett and Brother James Gillispie.

Her husband James A. Dale , daughter Patricia L. Bacon ( Jerry) , granddaughters Keesha A. Green (Pastor James A. Green),
Rhianon J. Hatcher (Marcus Rodney) great grandchildren Vera I. Beatty , Alysia J. Green, Jamia A. Green,
Garrett J. Green, Alexandria J. Green, Marcus A. Hatcher, and Lil’liana G. Hatcher
