Emmett M. Snell Obituary

Emmett M. Snell, aged 97, of Johnstown, NY, passed away at the Little Falls Hospital on Friday, July 5, 2024.


Born on September 13, 1926, in Youkers Bush, NY, he was the son of the late Milo and Beulah (Stock) Snell.


He married his first wife, Dorothy May Cline on March 3, 1951, sadly she passed away on Dec. 6, 1999.


He found love again with his second wife, Margaret E. Snell on February 14, 2006. They were married for 13 years until her passing on April 3, 2019.


Emmett proudly served in the United States Army, and upon his honorable discharge, he drove bus for the Oppenheim-Ephratah School District. Employed as a diesel mechanic, he worked for K.C. Canary before embarking on a fulfilling career as a machinist at Fulton Co. Machine and finally Countryside Industrial Machine from which he retired. Emmett was a past member of the Johnstown Reformed Church. He was cherished by many for his friendly nature and handy skills. Enjoyment was found coaching at the Johnstown Little League and he was a lifetime member of the Sammonsville Volunteer Fire Dept, having earned the title of the oldest surviving member until his death.


He is survived by his sons, Donald Snell (Rhonda) and Dale Snell (Brenda); brother, Grant Snell (Sharon); sister, Beatrice Leavenworth; his 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren, 5 Great-Great grandchildren, with 2 on the way; several stepsons, stepdaughters and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.


In addition to his parents and wives, Emmett is predeceased by his son, David A. Snell; daughter, JoAnne Delisle; brothers, Otis, Ellsworth and Milo Jr. Sisters Elsie, Ora, Betty and Iona.


The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to the staff and administration of the St. Johnsville Rehabilitation and Nursing Home for their extraordinary care of Emmett during his stay there.


Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, July 12, 2024, at 1:00 PM at the A.G. Cole Funeral Home Inc., 215 E. Main Street, Johnstown, NY.


Visitation for family and friends will be prior to the service at the funeral home on Friday, July 12, 2024, from 11:00 Am until 1:00 PM.


Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery, Fonda, NY, immediately following the funeral service, with military honors.
