Richard Peter Geers Obituary

Richard (Rick) Peter Geers, 63, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 6th. He was born in the Netherlands on January 31, 1961, and moved with his family to Norfolk, VA at the age of five. Rick graduated from Granby High School where he excelled in baseball, earning an athletic scholarship to Randolph-Macon College. He met Karen, the love of his life, in 1979 and they were married on January 7, 1984. They started their life in Virginia Beach and Rick worked his way up to co-ownership of George’s Seafood Distributors, Inc., where he continued for over three decades. Together Rick and Karen built their life in Virginia Beach, had two beautiful daughters, and celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary this year.

Rick enjoyed cheering on the Minnesota Vikings and cooking amazing seafood dinners to share with family and friends. He looked forward to his annual golf trips to Myrtle Beach and playing cards with the same group of guys for over 30 years. He was blessed to have many great friends and created a lifetime of happy memories. He looked forward to family dinners each Sunday and cherished time spent with his grandchildren.

In the last days of his life, Rick was surrounded by the people he loved the most and was provided comfort and support until he took his last breath. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Neal, brother-in-law, Stephen Travers, and sister-in-law, Wendy Travers. He is survived by his wife, Karen, daughter Ashley Smith and husband Sebastian, daughter Jordan Whitehorne and husband Austin, three grandchildren, Keir, Ayla, and Stevie, brother, Hans, lifelong friend and adopted sister, Chen Wu, and niece and nephew, Megan, and Ian Geers.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, July 20th, at 11:00 am at Hollomon Brown, 3600 Virginia Beach Blvd, Virginia Beach, VA 23452. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation to Thalia United Methodist Church’s food pantry to help feed the local community.
