Jimmie Ray “Jim” Adams, age 80 of Newburgh, IN formerly of Morganfield, KY passed away Tuesday, July 9, 2024 at Linda White Hospice House in Evansville, IN. He was born in Henshaw, KY Nov 2, 1943 to Marion Lindle and Verbale Davis Adams. Jimmie was blessed to have great parents and family. He lived in Sturgis and attended the first grade at Sturgis, KY. The family moved from Sturgis to an area called Bald Hill and he attended Morganfield School. The family again moved to Morganfield and he graduated from Morganfield High School. At age 17, Jimmie joined the United States Navy. Boot camp was at Chicago Great Lakes, Radio School in Norfolk, VA. Then he transferred to Sidi Yahia Morocco in Africa and remained there for two years. Upon his honorable discharge from the Navy, he made his way back to Morganfield, KY. He worked at Ferrocraft in Morganfield. He also worked for Inland Steel in East Chicago, IN and for Inland Container in Evansville, IN. Jimmie spent 22 ½ years with Peabody Coal Company as Warehouse Manager, retiring in December 1995. In January 1996 he started working for Mine Safe Electronics in Sturgis, KY and retired in May 2019. Jimmie was called to preach at a revival at Northside Baptist Church in Morganfield. He pastored Whispering Meadows Baptist Church, Calvary Baptist Church in Uniontown, KY. New Hope Baptist Church in Henderson, KY, and Northside Baptist Church in Morganfield. After pastoring, he continued to preach when there was a need and attended New Hope Baptist Church in Henderson, KY.


He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife Linda Gatewood Adams; sisters Betty Ann Adams Willett and Margaret Ruth Adams French; brother Billie Lindle Adams; step daughter Tina (Bootsie) Humes; step granddaughter Brandi Helms.

Funeral Service will be 1 PM Saturday, July 13, 2024 at Whitsell Funeral Home in Morganfield, KY


Visitation will be 10 AM until funeral time Saturday at the funeral home.


Burial will be in Uniontown City Cemetery in Uniontown, KY.
