Helen Gayle Hagen

Oct 4, 1947 Feb 16, 2023

Helen Gayle Hagen, 75, passed away peacefully on February 16, 2023, and was called home to the arms of her Lord and Savior after a brave battle with cancer. Born in Portland, OR, she was the daughter of the late Marilynn and Irving Homer Goulard Jr, and the second oldest of two boys and three girls. Growing up in Arcadia, CA, she was a graduate of Cal State Los Angeles (CA) where she obtained a degree in Elementary Education.

Upon graduation, Helen became a dedicated teacher and taught second and third grade in the Long Beach School District for a combined 38 years at Longfellow and Whittier Elementary Schools. During this period, she positively impacted thousands of students and dedicated countless hours of violin music lessons to her students, many of whom have become professional musicians.

After retiring, she volunteered her time at B.R.A.I.N., a non-profit organization assisting those with brain injuries, and at the Huntington Harbor Philharmonic providing students with the opportunity to learn about and hear classical music.

Helen enjoyed attending many classical music events, traveling the globe, sailing, and spending time with her family and grandchild. Left to cherish her memory is her husband, James Hagen, her children, Emily Hagen and James Hagen Jr. and wife, Thiomalina, her grandchild, Jacob, and her brother and sisters as well as many dear friends.

A celebration of life service will take place at Cornerstone Church, 1000 N. Studebaker Rd. Long Beach, CA 90815 on April 15th at 11:00am.
