Darrell K. Phillips Obituary

Darrell Phillips, age 89 of Fountain Valley, CA died on May 18, 2022. He was born in Bethlehem, PA to Royden and Edith (Mastin) Phillips. He finished his high school education while serving in the Navy during the Korean Conflict. Darrell served on the hospital ship USS Repose, where he was an X-Ray Technician. After his service, he continued his education at the New Jersey Institute of Technology and worked at the Elastic Stop Nut company in Union, NJ. He worked his way up to Director of New Product Development. After 33 years with ESNA he moved to California to work for Simmonds, SA for 5 years prior to his retirement. Darrell particularly enjoyed fishing and boating and built his own sailboat. In his later years Darrell found a passion for square dancing and singing. He had an excellent voice, and frequently performed 50s era songs and Broadway showtunes both solo and with local groups at retirement communities. He also performed and volunteered in the clubhouse at his former residence at Huntington Beach Landmark Community where he lived for almost 25 years. Darrell continued to sing after moving to Carmel Village in Fountain Valley in 2018.Darrell was predeceased by his former wife Lorraine, his brother Royden, and a sister Jane. He is survived by his sister Nancy Firestine, daughter Jill Stavarski, his son Keith Phillips, two granddaughters Holly and Mia Stavarski, by great-grandson James and several nieces and nephews. Darrells ashes will be scattered at sea by the US Navy.
