Mary Wiley Obituary

Passed away peacefully at Chapman House on July 7th, 2024, surrounded by family. Born on October 17th 1965, Mary Wiley of Owen Sound, was in her 58th year.

Beloved wife of Paul Wiley of Owen Sound. Loving mother of Erika Wiley (Mike), Jenna D’Silva (Nigel), and Mitchell Wiley. Cherished grandma of Madilynn, Claire, Grace, Isla and Simon. Treasured daughter of Styn Furness (predeceased by her father, Fred Furness). Dear sister of Steve Furness, Heather Morton (Rob), and Jennifer Coffee (Steve). Lovingly remembered by her mother and father-in-law Carol and Jeff Moore (predeceased by father-in-law Bev Wiley), and her in laws Darlene Parker (Craig), Brian Wiley (Peggy), and Christa Lee Vanwyck. Mary will also be greatly missed by many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and a close circle of friends.

Born and raised in Owen Sound, Mary attended the OSCVI before going on to Georgian College in Barrie, where she received her diploma in Medical Administration. She started her career back in Owen Sound with the Home Care Team at the Health Unit. In 1993, Mary and Paul had the opportunity to get into the school bus business. Mary began as a school bus driver and eventually, her and Paul became owner/operators of Martin’s School Transit.

Mary was involved in many clubs and community initiatives over the years. She volunteered her time as Treasurer for the Grey County Garden Club for several years and held various volunteer positions for over 30 years with SummerFolk.

Mary’s greatest joy in life was her family and becoming “Grandma Mary” to five beautiful grandchildren. She loved to spoil them, have them for sleepovers, encourage their hobbies, watch them play, and snuggle on the couch. She loved working in her gardens, knitting, and watching the sunset at Sauble Beach.

Mary’s departure has left an irreplaceable void in our hearts, but her spirit will continue to inspire and guide us all. Her legacy of love and kindness will live on through the lives she touched and the memories we hold dear.

Thank you to everyone that came in contact with Mary at Brightshores Health System and Chapman House. From the lab technicians to the oncology team and the many wonderful volunteers, Mary received truly remarkable care over the past four years.

A celebration of life will be held at Brian E. Wood Funeral Home, 250 14th St. W., Owen Sound, 519-376-7492, on Saturday July 13th. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m., with the service beginning at 2 p.m. and a reception to follow at the Owen Sound Legion. The service will be livestreamed for those unable to attend in person.

As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations to Owen Sound Regional Hospital Foundation or Chapman House would be appreciated. Online Condolences can be sent to Mary’s family by visiting her memorial at www.woodfuneralhome.ca
