In Loving Memory of Evangelina “Eva” (Perez) Salinas

April 23, 1919 - July 8, 2024

Eva, a cherished member of Lansing, Michigan passed away at 105 years young. Born in Cadereyta Jiménez, Nuevo León, Mexico to Jesus and Modesta Garza Perez. She married the love of her life, Alonzo Salinas, on September 5, 1948 in Harlingen, Texas. Eva became a U.S. citizen on July 20, 1978 and proudly voted in every election.

A devout Catholic, Eva co-founded Cristo Rey Church, served in the choir for 60 years, and was a nurturing Godmother to over 200 parishioners. She worked at Baron’s Window Coverings and the State of Michigan, retiring after years of dedicated service. Known for her gatherings, proper decorum, impeccable fashion, and homemade Mexican food, Eva was affectionately called “Aunt Eva,” “Evita,” “Reina,” and “Muñeca.”

Eva is survived by her siblings Tomasa “Tommie” (Fred) Cantu, Gilbert (Judy) Perez, and Pedro (Yolanda) Perez, nieces, nephews, extended family, and her adopted family Traci Ruiz, Darin, Kilian, and Kaeden Southworth. She joins her parents, husband Alonzo, and siblings Alfredo, Isadoro, Mary, Ramiro, Jesus, Delia, and Alonzo in eternal rest.

Visitation will be Friday, July 12, 2024 from 4-8 pm, Palmer, Bush & Jensen Funeral Home, 520 E. Mt. Hope, Lansing, MI 48910. Visitation will be Saturday, July 13, 2024 at 9 am and funeral mass at 10 am, Cristo Rey Church, 201 W. Miller, Lansing, MI 48911. Interment to follow at East Lawn Memory Gardens, 2400 Bennett Road, Okemos, MI 48864.

Eva’s legacy of faith, kindness, love, and community will forever be etched in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing her.


In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Lansing, 3186 Pine Tree Rd., Suite 1, Lansing, MI, 48911 or the Cristo Rey Choir.
