Charles Banner Nickels, age 96, of North Liberty, passed away at his home on July 8, 2024.

Charles was born May 22, 1928, in Niles, Ohio to the late Charles Lee and Elsie Crabbe) Nickels. In addition to his parents preceding him in death was his siblings Mildred, Etta (Lucille), Robert and Elsie (Evelyn). Then most recently on March 18, 2024 his loving wife married 71+ years as of October 26, 2023, Wanda Ruth (Balsley) Nickels.

Surviving are his 3 loving children Debra (Pat) Denney of North Liberty, IN, Beth (Rick) Jasinski of Milton, FL. and Daniel Nickels of Bremen, IN. Charles was blessed with 5 grandchildren Angela (Jason) Shidaker, Anne Metteer, Jessica (Mitch) Dennis, Ethan (Felicia) Wolfe, Kali Denney of South Bend, IN, with 10 great- grandchildren Preston, Eliana, Aidan, Easton, Colin, Caitlin, Emalyn, Logan, Archer, Maren. 

Charles was a High School graduate in Warren, Ohio before attending Warren Business College. Later he worked at Halsey Taylor Water Cooler & Drinking Fountain Company. In 1950 he was drafted into the U. S. Army in the 4th Division, 40th Tank Battalion serving most of his time in Germany. After returning home, he married the love of his life, Wanda Ruth Balsley on October 26, 1952 in Plymouth, Indiana. Charles began working for The Associates Investments & Finance Co. In 1959 they started their family with a daughter, Debra. Charles was transferred with Associates to Emmco Insurance as an underwriter & sales representative. Beth was born in Granada Hills in 1961. In 1963 he was transferred back to South Bend where Daniel was born. Charles worked at Holiday Rambler and then worked at AM General from 1972-1989. After retirement he started driving Motor Homes across the country with good friend Jim Ford for 9 years. 


Charles enjoyed traveling, mowing, painting, woodworking, gardening, his farm, being with and visiting family but most of all serving the lord. 

Charles wishes were for cremation to take place with no services. A celebration of life will follow at a later date. Palmer Funeral Home -Lakeville Chapel has been entrusted with his arrangements.
