Jacob Leendert Van Der Maden Obituary

Van Der Maden, Jacob “Jake”

Our dear father and husband, Jacob “Jake” Van Der Maden, went to be with the Lord on Friday, July 5th, 2024, after his long illness, just 15 days before his 82nd birthday.

Jake was a Dutch immigrant to Canada. He lost his mother in childbirth to his second sister. He lost his first sister (Mary) later in his teens. He lost another brother (Leo) in the 1990’s. He wasn’t able to get a high school education because he had to work for the family at whatever job he could get. He was a factory worker. He was a hard worker. Jake enjoyed the outdoors and loved to trim trees. He said what was on his mind whenever and to whom ever. Jake was loud. He was emotional. He was dramatic. He was fun. He enjoyed the simple things of life. Jake loved his family even when he couldn’t express it. His faith was simple but true.

Jake is loved and missed by his wife Mary (nee Marriott) of 59 years, children Julie and her husband Tore Stautland and Norm Maden, Grandchildren Mercedes and her husband Finlay, and Trinity and her fiancé Simon, as well as his elder brother, John, and his younger siblings Leny, Basti, Willy, Corrie and Henk. Jake will be missed by his family and friends in Canada and The Netherlands.

Cremation has taken place. A private family Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations to charity of choice.

Online condolences can be expressed at www.strathroyfuneralhome.com.

Arrangements entrusted to Denning’s of Strathroy (519) 245-1023.
