Muriel "Murnie" Roberts Obituary

Muriel “Murnie” Roberts, age 77, of Rockland MI went home to be with the Lord on July 4, 2024, following a courageous battle with cancer. 

Murnie was born on February 4, 1947, in Ontonagon, MI to Alice and Ivan Martin. She grew up in Greenland and attended school in Mass. 

She was united in marriage on June 24, 1967, to Steve Roberts at St. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Greenland MI. They had two children and made their home in Rockland. She retired in 2007 after working at Ontonagon Memorial Hospital for 35 years. In retirement she enjoyed traveling to Green Bay, WI to spend time with her children and grandchildren. While home in MI, she enjoyed many lunches and coffee at Henry’s Inn, as well as many day trips here and there with her good friend, Cindy Grams. 

She was a lifelong member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Rockland, MI and a member of the Altar Society. She was also a member of the Woodlawn Cemetery Association, The Rockland American Legion Post 92 Auxiliary, Ontonagon Eagles Club Auxiliary, and The Rockland Planning Commission. In the summers she worked at the Rockland Museum and served on the museum board as well. 

Murnie was proceeded in death by her husband Steve, her parents Alice and Ivan, and sisters Gail Immonen and Luella (Sue) Broadhead. 

She is survived by her two children and six grandchildren: son, Steve (Dana) Roberts Jr. of Luxemburg WI and their children: Kayla (Cole) Erickson, Sienna (Aiden) Hauser; daughter, Ja-Nae (Chad) Smurawa of DePere, WI and their children: Troy Roberts, Seth, Grace, and Tillie Smurawa. Murnie is further survived by siblings Anita Pantti, Jim (Lorraine) Martin, John (Colette) Martin, Pat (Jerry) Walker, many nieces, nephews, and extended family. 

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Rockland, MI on August 24, 2024, at 11 a.m. Friends may call at the church 1 hour prior to the start of the Mass. Burial will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery, Rockland, MI.
