Abraham Smith, Jr. 89, of Mays Landing, New Jersey, formerly of Atlantic City, New Jersey by way of Valdosta, Georgia, went home to be with the Lord Jesus Christ on Saturday, July 6, 2024. He was born in Valdosta, Georgia on December 21, 1934, to Margaret (nee’ Simmons) and Abraham Smith, Sr.


“Sonny” or “Abe” as he was affectionately called enjoyed his life tremendously. He attended Atlantic City High School and graduated with the Class of !953. After completing high school, he proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. After his honorable discharge from the Army, he became a taxi cab owner and operator for more than fifty years in the city he loved dearly – Atlantic City.


Abe, was an ambassador for the City of Atlantic City. His love for the city was mutual. After serving as an ambassador for more than fifty years, the Atlantic City officially honored Mr. Smith by remaining a section of Lighthouse Court after him. Abraham Smith Jr. Way is forever dedicated to his love for the city.


Abraham worshiped at Union Baptist Temple in Atlantic City for almost his entire life.


Sonny, will be sadly missed. He is survived by: his children, Raina Littlejohn-Clark (Vernon), Chantley Kashif Smith, Linda Smith-Copeland, Curtis Small, Yvette Smith, and Ben Howard; grandchildren, Tristan Littlejohn, Sean Clark, Leah Copeland, Langston Copeland, Aneesha

Dubois, Melanie Faith Smith, Chan’tel Mathis, Eric Small, and Christina Small; siblings, Janet Toadvine, Dr. Brenda Smith, Sharon Davis, and Larry Smith; and a host of other family and friends. He will also be missed by his childhood friend, William Gabriel (Marion); and Joe Marshall’s Family.



Abraham was predeceased by: his parents, Margaret Ann Simmons Smith and Abraham Smith, Sr.; sisters, Grace Ann Hawkins, Betty Sue Smith-Taylor, and Jean Thompson.

Funeral services will be 11AM, Saturday, July 13, 2024, Union Baptist Temple Church, 335 North Pennsylvania Avenue, Atlantic City, New Jersey, where friends may call from 10AM. Interment to follow in the Atlantic County Veterans' Cemetery, Estell Manor, NJ.
