Pat was born January 12th 1951, to Lawrence and Fern (Browen) Hanssen in Mitchell, SD. She attended grades K-12 at Emery school graduating in 1969. During her school years she helped on the family farm with her brothers Terry and Gene. After high school Pat worked at the Alexandria Café for a short time with her mother. After leaving the café she worked in Mitchell for the Advisor where she met the love of her life Jack.

Jack and Pat Karber were married on September 15th 1973, in Mitchell, SD. To this union they were blessed with six children: Jason, Jody, Jamie, Pamela, Paul, and Phil. They left the family farm in 1985 and moved to Pierre, where Pat did daycare for many years while raising their children. After all her kids were in school, she worked numerous jobs her favorite being the school lunch lady. She loved cooking and baking. She always made sure all the kids had food to eat including giving them her own money, so they could eat when they needed to. All her kids’ friends were always welcome and treated like her own. She loved having a house full. Pat retired from Wegner Auto in 2014.

During her retirement she loved taking care of her grandkids, who were her pride and joy. She loved attending their sporting events or going on trips with them. She loved Christmas time, decorating, cooking, and baking for all her family. As soon as thanksgiving was over, she played Christmas music and decorated the entire house. Family time was important to her. She was famous for her eye rolls… If you got one you were loved! She also loved teasing her nurses and therapist and loved ones.
