Billie Hunley Obituary

Billie “Cookie” Hunley passed away peacefully in Los Gatos, California, on June 16, 2022.  Cookie was born on November 20, 1941, in Kansas City, Kansas.  Cookie spent her childhood in Merriam, KS, and attended Shawnee-Mission High School.  Cookie graduated from Park Hill High School after her family moved to Lake Waukomis the summer before her senior year.  While growing up Cookie enjoyed tap and jazz dancing, and performed in numerous shows in Kansas City.

Cookie was a secretary for Trans World Airlines (TWA) for eleven years, with two of the years spent in San Francisco, CA when her husband Robert Hunley was stationed in Petaluma, CA with the United States Army.

After their daughter Jill was born, Cookie was very active with various volunteer positions at school and in their neighborhood The Coves.  In 1989 Cookie earned her Paralegal credentials and worked in a law office for 15 years.

Cookie enjoyed tennis, hiking, bridge, and exploring National Parks.  Cookie served as a Volunteer Rocky Mountain National Park Ranger after retiring and spending their summers in Colorado.  In 2012 Cookie and Bob moved to San Jose, CA to be closer to their daughter’s family.

Cookie always put other people first, and will be remembered for her kindness, positive spirit, sense of humor, and her impressive organizational skills.

Cookie was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Robert Hunley.  Cookie is survived by her daughter Jill (Geoff), and granddaughter Shea Elmore of Los Gatos, CA; her sister Bonnie Sue Cooper of Kansas City, MO; her nieces Danna Corcoran, Angie Riemann, Kim Phillips and their families.
