Allyn D. Scace Obituary

Allyn D. Scace, 59, of Pittsfield, MA, died Tuesday, August 2, 2022 at Berkshire Medical Center following a long and courageous battle with cancer.  Born October 17, 1962 in Hudson, NY, he was the son of Stuart and Marcia Harder Scace.  Allyn graduated pro merito in 1980 from the Machine Shop Vocational Program at Taconic High School and was employed at various machine shops throughout Pittsfield.  In 1985, he began working alongside his father as a Precision Machinist at the Stuart Allyn Co., Inc., a plastics mold manufacturing company, and remained there until 2020, when his declining health prevented him from continuing to work full time.  In his younger years, Allyn enjoyed playing the guitar and was active in youth group and Boy Scouts at First Baptist Church in Pittsfield, earning the B.S.A. rank of God and Country. He attended New England Baptist Youth Conference in Ocean Park, Maine, a Christian youth camp, which was a beautiful foundation for his faith in God and where he made priceless friendships that continued on for four decades. Allyn was mechanically gifted and was often working on various vehicles he enjoyed fixing up and driving.  On May 4, 1985, he married the former Katherine Carignan, and together they had three children.  Allyn’s greatest pleasures were boating, watching NASCAR, gathering items “to turn one man’s trash into another man’s treasure” and spending time in his garage with his friends and neighbors, who were an important part of his life and a great inspiration to him.

In addition to his parents and Kathy, Allyn is survived by his children, Adrianne Whitehead (Gregory) of Mattydale, NY, Allyson Scace and Matthew Scace (Morgan Jones), all of Pittsfield, and his sister, Lisa Scace (Jeffrey) of Lenox, MA.  He is also survived by two grandsons, Norman and Brogan Whitehead and two nieces, Nicole Rugg (James) and Lindsay Belair.  Allyn was predeceased by his brother, David Paul, who died in infancy, as well as his paternal grandparents, Raymond and Ethel Bond and maternal grandparents, Maurice and Helen Harder.  Allyn was also predeceased by his beloved and faithful companion, Ziggy, the Big White Dog, who passed away exactly one year prior, August 2, 2021.

Calling hours will be at the DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME on Saturday, August 6, 2022 from 2:30 P.M. to 4:00 P.M., with a funeral home service to begin at 4:00 P.M. officiated by the Rev. Sheila Sholes-Ross, Pastor of First Baptist Church.  Burial will be private in Woodlawn Cemetery, Valatie, NY, where Allyn will be laid to rest with his beloved grandparents and other family members.  Memorial donations in Allyn’s honor may be made payable to “First Baptist Church” with a notation to the CAMPERSHIP PROGRAM on the memo line, and mailed to the Devanny-Condron Funeral Home, 40 Maplewood Avenue, Pittsfield, MA  01201.
