George J Vasquez Obituary

On Sunday, August 7, 2022, George J. Vasquez, beloved father, grandfather, great grandfather, and brother, passed away at the age of 80.  George was born on December 8, 1941, in Colton, California.  Loving husband of the late Yvonne Fogata Vasquez.  He was the fifth sibling born of eight children raised by loving parents, Antonio, and Martha Arteaga.  He is preceded in death by siblings, Helen, Tony, Ronnie, and Lupe.  He is survived by siblings Elinor, Phyllis, and Danny.  George grew up in Stockton and Rio Vista, California area, and graduated from Rio Vista High School.  George enlisted into the Army after High School, where he was stationed in Germany.  He was an American Veteran and proud member of The American Legion.   He has two sons, John, and Matthew Vasquez.  He loved all his grandchildren very much, and was so thrilled to finally have a great grandchild, four-month-old Mateo J. Gonzalez, whom he called his “little burrito”.  His family sparked his love of life and was surrounded by loved ones who will continue to honor his legacy.

George loved life to its absolute fullest.  He enjoyed traveling, visiting with family and friends, was a great woodworker, knowledgeable gardener, stylish decorator, and a true artist at heart. He was known for his kindness, gentleness, and generosity.  Although he was a man of few words, he made friends wherever he went.  A faithful Catholic Christian, who attended Sunday Mass regularly at St. Patrick’s Church in Ripon, California.   He will be very deeply missed by family and friends.

Visitation for George is scheduled for Thursday, August 18th from 5 to 6 PM with a vigil service starting at 6 PM.  Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, August 19th at 10:30 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Escalon followed by a committal service at St. John's Catholic Cemetery.
