James Theodore Schmit Obituary

Eagle - James Theodore Schmit peacefully joined his parents on August 10, 2022 at age 59.

Born to Dorothy and Eugene Schmit of Elm Grove on April 9, 1963, James was a proud graduate of St. Mary’s Grade School, Catholic Memorial High School, the University of Houston (BA) and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (MA).

James worked as a Senior Service Support Technician at Zero Zone in North Prairie for the past ten years, overseeing customer service.

Always up for learning something new and an adventure, he enjoyed traveling both internationally and across the US. Jim was a fan of motor sports and modified his own car into a high-powered rally racer. He attended the EAA fly-in annually and loved time with his nieces and nephews. An avid PBS viewer, he also collected unique silver/gold US coins and enjoyed doing projects around his first home.

Longtime friends and family were gifted with Jim’s positive outlook and kind resiliency. He loved to make people laugh and could laugh at himself. As a survivor of childhood brain cancer, he supported Red Nose Day, fundraising to end poverty and ensure a healthy future for all children.

He is survived by his siblings: Susan (Gregg) Achtenhagen, Thomas (Sue) Schmit and Cindy (Chris) Stemper along with seven nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 17, 2022, from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm at the funeral home. Memorial services will follow at 12:00 pm. Private inurnment at St. Mary's Visitation Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to The Red Nose Day, Catholic Memorial or Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin.
