Leona Catherine Hardy Flippin was born in Hopewell, Virginia, the daughter of Flossie Jane Savage Hardy Spain and Jessie Stanton Hardy.
She married Carl B. Flippin, Jr. in 1946. Carl became a minister not long after they were married. Leona was active in music, teaching, and program planning in their various pastorates in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Norman, Oklahoma; Ponca City, Oklahoma; Dunn, North Carolina; Henderson, North Carolina; and Manson, North Carolina for nearly 50 years.
Leona graduated from Hopewell High School in Hopewell, Virginia and later attended Southwestern Bible College in Oklahoma City.
Before her marriage she worked for Civil Services and U.S. Foil Company in Virginia. After her marriage she worked for the University of Oklahoma as a secretary/typist and later for Vorheis Book Shop in Ponca City, Oklahoma.
Leona taught beginning knitting classes for her local county extension office for 4 years. She also taught beginning porcelain making and beginning china painting for Vance-Granville Community College in North Carolina for 4 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Ray Stanton Hardy; and her sisters, Vera Jane Josey and June Ann Wilson.
She is survived by her 3 sons, Carl Myron Flippin, Byron Stanton Flippin and Vyron Ray Flippin.
