Sally Frances Sergio Obituary

A Life Well Lived

Sally Frances Sergio, loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister, went to be with our Lord on August 21, 2022. Sally is survived by her loving husband, Michael of 53 years; their children, Renee (Ken) Hoggay, Michael (Amy) Sergio and Cathy (Paulo) Sergio-Barreto; her grandchildren, Julia (Gideon) Hillebrand, Luke Hoggay and Isabella Sergio; and her sister, Marilyn Englehart.

Sally was born to Margaret and Robert Nicol on May 31, 1943 in Zanesville, Ohio. She spent her early years working alongside her family at Nicol’s Family Restaurant, a local, iconic Americana diner known for delicious homemade pies and ice cream, but if you asked Sally, she would have said her favorite part was Mother and Dad.

In 1969, she met and married Michael Angelo Sergio Jr - the start of a gorgeous lifetime adventure. Over the last 53 years, Sally and Mike had the pleasure to live in five different parts of the country (Philadelphia, St. Louis, Minneapolis, Chicago, Columbus). They explored four continents together (crisscrossing North America, sailing around South America, sampling Europe and traversing as far as Australia). They further grew an already large Italian and German family tree. And, most importantly, they glorified God with their lives.

In intriguing contrast to her beloved “Businessman” husband, Sally was an artsy “Renaissance” woman that was his perfect complement. Master baker, chef, painter, card player, swimmer, decorator. Nobody did Christmas like Sally.  She attended business school and beauty school, but her true calling was to be a wonderful, devoted mother. She made a beautiful home for her family, her most favorite being 408. Sally was a natural when it came to caring for young children, something that later extended beyond her family into a fulfilling profession.

Sally had many beautiful talents and gifts to offer, but the biggest one was her heart. She was incredibly kind, generous and welcoming of everyone. Her ardent faith inspired and brought others to God. She was and will continue to be loved by all.

Funeral Mass will be Thursday, Aug. 25 at 12 noon at Saint Ann Elizabeth Seton Parish, 600 Hill Rd N., Pickerington, with Fr. Leo Connolly, Celebrant. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery Mausoleum in Pataskala.
