George Kevin Hill Obituary

HILL: George Kevin- Faced the end of his life with the same courage and fortitude that defined his journey. His charisma endeared him to everyone he met (and occasionally got him into trouble). On Saturday, July 6, 2024, George ended that journey at Stedman Hospice with loved ones by his side. Survived by his wife Johanne, brother David (Karen), nieces Jessica (John), Kelly (Gabriel), Rachel (Tony) and nephew Jamie (Jessica). Loving stepfather to Cory (Rebecca), Shaun and Sabrina Maye, and step grandfather to Caden Giroux. Predeceased by his wife Cathy Giroux, parents George and Margaret Hill, and brother Lawrence (Anne). George also leaves behind his military brothers Paul Fenton, Paul McMenemy, Dean Turner, Victor Hickey, Riv Kennedy, and Rod Loesche, and many other trusted friends. Born in England, George came to Canada as a child and ultimately built an impressive career in the military. He began his career with the PPCLI, in Winnipeg, MB. After completing his jump courses, George was accepted in the Canadian Airborne Regiment, Special Service Forces. George continued his military career with the Royal Canadian Regiment in Gagetown, NB and later went to Germany with 3 RCR. He returned back to Canada and went to Cornwallis, NS where he became a drill instructor for new recruits. During his military career George trained as a firefighter in Borden, ON. He would later accept a fire inspector position with the GTAA, where he was promoted to Captain. When Air France 358 crashed in 2005, George was involved in rescuing its passengers. He received several medals, including his UN medals for his peacekeeping roles in various foreign countries. Cremation has taken place. SERENITY BURIAL & CREMATION SERVICES INC., 361 Main Street, Port Dover (226) 290-9093 have been entrusted with the arrangements. A celebration Of Life will be held at a future date at the Port Dover Legion, Port Dover, ON. Details of the celebration of life will be posted on Facebook.
