Luis Quintana Obituary

Luis Quintana age 88, of Amherst, Texas, passed away at his home surrounded by his family on Sunday, July 7, 2024 in Amherst. He was born March 11, 1936 in Dahlia, New Mexico to Placido and Conferina (Lucero) Quintana. He married Elena Lucero Quintana in Morton, Texas on December 19, 1957.

Luis grew up in the Anton Chico, New Mexico area, on a ranch owned by the family since the 1800’s. He was united in matrimony with Elena Virginia Lucero in Morton, Texas on December 19, 1957. After marrying Elena, they lived in Morton where he farmed until 1975. He farmed for many years for various farmers and in various towns until he retired at age 85. In retirement, he enjoyed playing bingo, going to the horse races, and hanging out with friends. He is preceded in death by his wife, Elena; his parents; his five sisters, Stella Ramirez, Flavia “Vita” Quintana, Petra Chavez, Isabel Montoya, Maria Gossett; his six brothers, Fransisco Quintana, Sostenes Quintana, Leopoldo Romero, Placido Quintana Jr., Jose Trevino Quintana, and David Quintana.

He was a fantastic grandfather. He loved to read to his grandchildren. His favorite book to read to them was “Morris and Boris Three Stories” and he would make them laugh with his comical voice. To his great-grandchildren he was known as “Papo Cucuy,” a name he gave himself.

Luis is survived by his three sons; Fabian Quintana and wife Cynthia of Amherst, Texas, Luis Quintana Jr. of Amherst, Texas, Roberto Quintana and wife Carmen of Seagraves, Texas, four daughters; Rosita Gonzales and husband Rudy of Muleshoe, Texas, Aurora Shippey and husband Dean of Lake Havasu, Arizona, Sylvia Campos and husband Johnny of Muleshoe, Texas and Percilla Quintana of Jacksonville, Florida, thirteen grandchildren; Cassandra, Rudy Jr., Dakota, Margaret, Eric, Selina, Jojo, Jennifer, Bonnie, David, Keeno, Lydia, and Mariah, and twenty two great-granchildren; several nieces, nehews and friends.

Family suggest memorials be sent to Muleshoe Memorial Park Cemetery Association, PO Box 373, Muleshoe, Texas 79347.
