D. Jeanne Mott, 77, Gardner, Kansas passed away Saturday, July 6, 2024, in Gardner, Kansas. Cremation with inurnment at a future date. In lieu of services and flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. Condolences may be left at www.brucefuneralhome.com

Jeanne was born in Monte Vista, Colorado on August 27, 1946, to Jesse Hiram Hughes and Mabel Darlene (Brewer) Hughes. She grew up in Center, Colorado and graduated from Center High School in 1964. Jeanne went to Colorado State College to earn a Bachelor of Science in 1967 then a Master of Education degree from University of Arizona in 1980. On December 18, 1965, Jeanne married Richard Luther Mott in Center, Colorado. They lived in several cities before moving to Gardner in 1993. Jeanne retired after working 36 years for Baker University, Baldwin City, Kansas, most recently as the Senior Director of Financial Aid. She was an active member of the Rocky Mountain Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (RMASFAA) and the Kansas Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (KASFAA), and especially enjoyed her time as a member of RMASFAA’s Summer Institute Faculty. Her classes at Summer Institute were highly sought after as they were engaging and made the material easily understandable, no easy feat with student financial aid. Jeanne’s greatest joy was her grandchildren, all of whom considered her the “ultimate grandma.” She was an avid reader and enjoyed sewing fleece blankets for the charity “Project Linus.”

Jeanne is preceded in death by her parents and four sisters. She is survived by her husband Richard of the home; daughters Shawna Mott and Melissa Mott both of Lawrence, Kansas; son Jeremy Mott, Kansas City, Missouri; brother Jesse Kent Hughes, California; and grandchildren: Ashley, Storm, Cassie, Hanna, and Sam.
