George “Curt” Welliver, 82, of Mifflinville, died Saturday, July 6, 2024 at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
Born October 17, 1941 in Berwick, he was the son of the late George W. and Betty Nan (Horsefield) Welliver.
A graduate of Berwick High School, Class of 1960, he went on to serve in the U.S. Army in Germany from 1960-1966. After his military service, he became co-owner of Welliver’s Plumbing and Heating in Berwick.
Mr. Welliver was a member of Bethany Church of Berwick. He was a volunteer fireman and former president and trustee of the Mifflinville Rangers Fire Company, a former Mifflinville supervisor, serving multiple terms, and a representative for Mifflin Township to the Berwick Sewer Authority Board for many years.
Curt enjoyed collecting Hess trucks, boating, fishing, snowmobiling, trips to Canada, and most of all, good times spent with family and friends.
He was the first LVAD (Left Ventricular Assist Device) implant at Geisinger Medical Center in 2012, paving the way for future lifesaving options for those suffering from severe heart failure.
Curt is survived by his wife of 53 years, the former Shirley McAfee; his son, Mark Allen Frace and his wife, Carol, of Newville, PA; two daughters: Kelli Siehl and her husband, Bill, and Jodi Alley and her partner, David O’Reilly, all of Berwick; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two brothers: Lloyd Welliver of Berwick, and Paul Welliver and his wife, Janet, of Montrose, PA.
A visitation will be held Thursday, July 11, 2024 from 6-8 P.M. at the Mayo Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Chestnut Street, Berwick, where funeral services will be held Friday, July 12 at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor John Leek, his pastor, officiating.
Interment will be in Mifflinville Cemetery.
Donations can be made in his memory to the Animal Resource Center, 80 Hogs Back Rd, Millville, PA 17846.
