Basil Jefferson Marett, Sr., 81, of Belmont, peacefully met Jesus face to face July 7, 2024 at home, surrounded by his family. He was born October 18, 1942 in Mobile, Alabama, son of Clyde Heller Marett and Arline Parker Marett.
Basil was a long time active member of Park Street United Methodist Church in Belmont, where he sang in the choir. He had a deep love for his church and his church family. His genuine love, concern and care for people will leave a hole that can't be filled. His children cherish the fact that he was always present, no matter what and very protective. He adored spending time with them and especially his grandchildren. Along with his love for singing in the choir at church, he loved music in general. He even enjoyed dancing to a good tune. Being from Belmont, of course he was an avid Red Raider fan and enjoyed attending games and supporting the community as a whole.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 61 years, Judith Chapman Marett; his children, Jill Marett McHugh and her husband, Craig and Basil Jefferson Marett, Jr. and his wife Kirsten; grandchildren, Jack Abrams, Hunter and Madison Marett and Zack McHugh; as well as his great grandson, Sawyer Trexler.
A service to celebrate Basil's life will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, July 13, 2024 at Park Street United Methodist Church, 120 Park Street, Belmont. The family will greet guests after the service in the family life center of the church.
The family wishes to thank Gaston Hospice for your kind and compassionate care for Basil during his last days.
