Kenneth “Dale” Artz, age 88, of Hendricks, MN passed away surrounded by his family on Saturday, July 6, 2024 at the Hendricks Community Hospital. Funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 11th at Faith Lutheran Brethren Church in Hendricks, MN. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Houseman Funeral Home, Birk Chapel in Hendricks, MN on Wednesday, July 10th with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at the Hendricks City Cemetery. Houseman Funeral Home, Birk Chapel of Hendricks, MN has been entrusted with the arrangements.


Kenneth “Dale” Artz was born in Brookings, South Dakota on February 8, 1936 and was raised by his parents, Glen and Mildred (Reeves) Artz. Dale was a lifelong resident of Hendricks and graduated from Hendricks High School.


Dale married Clarice Hexum on July 22, 1959 and they were blessed with two children. Dale and Clarice would have celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary this month.


Dale was employed over a period of 41 years and worked a variety of jobs including at Schwan’s in Marshall, MN, John Deere in Astoria, International Harvester in Hendricks, and Milton’s Standard Service Station. Dale also worked for SDSU for 24 years. After retiring in 1997, Dale started an appliance repair business and worked at Birk Funeral Home and Houseman Funeral Home, Birk Chapel in Hendricks.


Dale was very involved in the Hendricks community as a member of the Kiwanis Club since 1973 and as a board member of Grace United Methodist Church. He also was a sports booster for the Hendricks school and a volunteer for Good Shepherd Hospice. Dale received several awards including the Good Samaritan Award for outstanding life-long service in 2004, the Kiwanis Vantine Life Fellow in 2010, and the Lincoln County Outstanding Senior Citizen of the Year Award in 2019. For his dedication to serving his community, Dale was awarded the Hendricks Community Spirit Award in 2015. Dale will always be remembered for the way he served those around him.


In his free time, Dale was an avid sports fan. He enjoyed golfing, attending Minnesota Vikings Games and Minnesota Twins games, and playing cards. Most of all, he loved spending time with family and friends. Dale always had time to talk with everyone he met.


Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Clarice Artz; children: Brian Artz of Hendricks, MN and Debbie (Doug) Kachelhoffer of Sioux Falls, SD; grandchildren: Evan Kachelhoffer and Captain Cole Kachelhoffer; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Glenn and Mildred Artz.
