William "Billy" R. McCorkle Obituary

William R. “Billy” McCorkle age 83, a longtime resident of Ridley Park, died Saturday, July 6, 2024 at Bryn Mawr Hospital, with his family at his side.


Born and raised in Philadelphia, Billy was the son of the late Leon Vincent McCorkle and Marie Gertrude (nee O’Connor) McCorkle. He was a graduate West Catholic High School.


Billy had a career in the maritime industry, beginning as a Seafarer in the Merchant Marines. Afterward, he transitioned to Crowley Marine Transport, where he eventually retired as a foreman.


An avid Philadelphia Sports fan, Billy was a beloved father, pop, uncle and dear friend, who enjoyed spending time with his family, friends and especially his grandchildren. He loved the time spent down the shore on the beach, at the family home in Wildwood, NJ.


Billy was a proud member of AA; who's journey in recovery spanned over 40 years. He offered support and mentoring to countless individuals throughout the years.


Along with his parents and 10 brothers & sisters, Billy was predeceased by his beloved wife of 48 years, Nancy (nee Souders), McCorkle.


He is survived by his children, Joanne (Mark) Perrotta, Billy (Casey) McCorkle, Nancy (Scott) Bowen, Edward Finocchiaro; his grandchildren, William Finocchiaro, Kaitlyn Bowen, Allison Bowen, Brittany Finocchiaro, Jennifer Jordan, Gabrielle Perrotta, and Mark (Olivia) Perrotta; and great-grandchildren, Joey, Lola, Joseph, Mark III, Carmine and Mila. He was also survived by many by many nieces & nephews; and lifelong friend, William O’Neill.


Relatives and friends are invited to his Viewing Wednesday, July 10, 2024 9:30-10:45am at the Marvil Funeral Home, 1110 Main St., Darby; Funeral Mass will begin at 11:00am at Blessed Virgin Mary Church, 1101 Main St., Darby, PA. Burial will follow at Saints Peter & Paul Cemetery.
