Dewitt Harris Obituary

Bonaire, GA - Dewitt Harris, 93, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 6, 2024, at his residence. The visitation for family and friends will be held on Sunday, July 14, 2024, from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm at Burpee-Scott Memorial Chapel & Crematory. Funeral services celebrating his life will be held on Monday, July 15, 2024, at 12:00 pm at Burpee-Scott Memorial Chapel & Crematory with interment following at Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Milledgeville, GA at 2:30 pm with Reverend Phil Bryant officiating.

Dewitt was born on March 8,1931, in Tuscaloosa, AL to the late Walter and Ollie Mae (Channell) Harris. He faithfully and honorably served his country in the United States Army, where he served during the Korean Conflict. Dewitt retired from Robins Air Force Base as a sheet metal mechanic. He was a diehard Alabama Crimson Tide fan, "Roll Tide"! Dewitt was a long-time and faithful member of Sandy Valley Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, Dewitt was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 55 years, Orene (Newson) Harris, his son, Keith Harris; infant daughter: Valarie Lynn Harris.

Left to cherish his memory is his son, Walter Kenneth Harris (Leta Sheets) of Bonaire, GA; daughter: Judith Karen Harris of Bonaire, GA; grandchildren: Kimberly Britt (Jarrett), Christopher Bruce Whitten (Chrissy), Tiffany Michelle Whitten, Jennifer Lynn Reese, and Ashley Elizabeth Harris; great grandchildren: Landon Cole (Ansley Sapp), McKinlee Reese, Bradley Pitsenbarger, Bryson Malone, Carter Waller, Brantley and Chase, Dylan Whitten, and one on the way; multiple nieces and nephews from Tuscaloosa, AL; A special thank you to our pallbearers: Justin Nixon, Josh Nixon, Kirk Nixon, Jeff Nixon, Christopher Whitten, and Landon Cole; A very special thank you to all who participated in the care of our daddy, including caregivers, doctors, nurses and affiliates from the Carl Vinson VA Hospital in Dublin, GA.
