Gary Vernon Bowman Obituary

It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the sudden and unexpected passing of Gary Vernon Bowman, who left us on July 6, 2024, at the age of 75. Born in Greensboro, NC, on April 23, 1949, Gary lived a life marked by love, honor, and integrity, impacting all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Gary was an inspirational figure to his family and friends, known for his deep love of fishing, playing pool, and dedicating countless hours as a coach and umpire for girls' softball and a leader for the Boy Scouts of America. His passion for these activities was only surpassed by his unwavering devotion to his family and his bonus family, whom he loved equally.

Throughout his life, Gary faced numerous medical adversities, yet he overcame them with remarkable strength and resilience. He was often described as the emotionally strongest man his children ever knew, a strong father who raised his children and helped raise his grandchildren with boundless love, honor, and integrity. His legacy will continue to inspire and guide those who were fortunate enough to be a part of his life.

Gary is preceded in death by his beloved mother, Jean Bowman, and father, Wayne E. Bowman. He is survived by his devoted wife, Mary Kate Bowman, and his cherished children: Cameron Bowman, Meghan Eggleston, Erin Dunn, Michelle Harmon, Chris Paul, Diana Paul, Greg Freeh, Daniel Freeh, and Rebecca Willard. He also leaves behind 23 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren, all of whom will forever remember his loving spirit and enduring wisdom.

A private family memorial will be held at a later date to honor and celebrate Gary’s remarkable life. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him and whose lives he touched in countless ways.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Northside High School Girls Softball in Gary’s name by clicking here.

May Gary Vernon Bowman rest in peace, forever remembered as a pillar of strength and love.
