Daniel Dix Missroon, Jr. Obituary

Senior Master Sergeant Daniel Dix Missroon, Jr., 87, the widower of Jessie Lou Patterson Missroon, the loving husband of Barbara Kellahan Missroon, and a decorated American Serviceman laid his weapons down and peacefully entered into eternal rest on Saturday morning, July 6, 2024, at his residence surrounded by his family.

Daniel was born the son of Daniel Dix Missroon, Sr., and Ethlyn Davis Missroon on August 2, 1936, in Horry County. He was the 2nd born of five siblings, Frances “Nocky”, Peggy, Michael, and Joseph. Dan honorably served his country for over 23 years in the United States Air Force and was a Vietnam Veteran. Senior Master Sergeant Missroon enlisted March 8, 1957, and retired active duty on August 31, 1980. He is a highly decorated veteran receiving many medals, badges, citations, and campaign ribbons including but not limited to The Bronze Star, Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon, Air Force Longevity Service Ribbon with 5 Oak Leaf Clusters, and the Vietnam Service Medal. He completed numerous Military educational trainings including but not limited to Aircraft Maintenance Technician, Noncommissioned Officer Preparatory School, and US Army Material Command Industrial Training Program. At his retirement, he was a Transient Alert officer for another 23 years at the Charleston Air Force Base.

Dan was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, and being in nature when not working. These times were full of activities that always included his family and friends especially his adorable and cherished grandchildren. He was an American Patriot, a Southern Gentleman, and Family Man.

His memory continues to resound through the lives of his wife, Barbara; three children, Mark Daniel Missroon (Donna) of Mt. Pleasant, Stuart Morris (Mary) of Edenton, NC, and Mitchell Morris (Denise) of Rock Hill; and five grandchildren, Madison, Sarah, Elizabeth, Sydney, and Camp.

His legacy lives on in his surviving brother, Michael “Mike” Missroon (Jo Ann), and sister, Peggy Cunningham (Bob); and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Jessie Lou Missroon; and two siblings, Nocky Elliott, and Joseph “Joley” Missroon.

The Missroon family extends a special “Thank You” to the VA Interim Health Care Home Calls and the Interim Healthcare Hospice for the support given to them during this journey.
