Marie Hartley Boatwright Obituary

Marie was born to parents Fletcher and Roxie Kneece Hartley of Batesburg, SC. Her siblings included Gibson Hartley of Batesburg, Paul Hartley of Monetta, Lucille Quattlebaum of Aiken, Fletcher Hartley, Jr. of Lexington, and Charles Denzil Hartley of Batesburg, who are all deceased. Her surviving sister is Ann McDaniel of Leesville. Marie was married to Derrell Boatwright of Leesville, who passed away in 2013. Surviving are her two children, Greg Boatwright of West Columbia, and Lesia Boatwright of Leesville.

She owned and operated Marie’s Beauty Shop for years and eventually closed the business to raise her two children and to assist her husband in his business as owner and operator of Boatwright Motors. Marie was a devoted wife and mother who became famous for her macaroni cheeses, chocolate delights, and banana split pies. She was a longtime member of St. Paul’s Methodist Church in Leesville. In recent years she began to attend Virginia Wingard Memorial UMC in Columbia, where Greg is Director of Music. One of her passions was creating and maintaining her front yard, which was highly praised in the community for many years. Marie’s life consisted of a strong pursuit of excellence, an undying devotion to her family, and a great faith in her Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.

We praise God for the life of Marie H. Boatwright. Who can find a virtuous woman? For her price is far above rubies. Proverbs 31:10

A private entombment will be held Sunday, July 14, 2024 at Christ the Good Shepherd Mausoleum at Ridge Crest Park. Memorials may be made to Virginia Wingard Memorial UMC 1500 Broad River Road Columbia, SC 29210
