Mrs. Shirley Lee Delaney (Dot) was born in Chesterfield County, Virginia on June 18, 1942. She was the eldest daughter of Clarence Raleigh Smith and Mamie W. Smith. She was proceeded in death by father, mother, and sister Ruth Ella Boyd.

She accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age as a member of First Union Baptist Church of Richmond, Virginia. She was an active member for many years. Shirley was a product of the Chesterfield County Public School system where she graduated from Carver High School Class of 60’.

Shirley married Bobby Louis Delaney, their loving relationship spanned for 55 years and had one daughter Sherita LaShay Delaney and seven stepchildren. She worked for many years as a nurse at Lucy Corr Nursing Home. She found joy in helping others and did private care for family and friends in need. Shirley loved her family and enjoyed traveling; driving was one of the things she enjoyed doing most. Whether going on vacation or taking others to shop or to visit family/friends you could count on her to get you to your destination safe and sound. She would play her music, laugh, and talk along the way. Shirley was always willing to help if you called her. She was right there to listen, give advice, or help you any way she could.

Dot as she was affectionately called by many was a member of Back to Health and Healing Outreach Ministries Seven Day Adventist Church where she rededicated her life to Christ. Shirley enjoyed packing food boxes for those in need, delivering them, sending out literature, and spreading the word of God.

Mrs. Shirley Delaney leaves to cherish in her memory her dedicated and loving husband Bobby Delaney, devoted daughter Sherita Delaney. Her stepchildren Alfred Delaney (Ethel), Maurice Delaney, Mary Ann Hill, Anna Maria Bates Smith (Calvin) seventeen step grandchildren, and twenty step greatgrandchildren. Two brothers Randy Anderson and Lonnie Wayne Anderson. Nephews Robert Boyd, Tuvonte, Jamal, Randy Jr. Anderson and her loving cousins. Beloved goddaughter Tiffany Alene Phagan. Her bonus family, son and daughter Dr. and Mrs. Stephenson Bynum. Sister and brother Jackie Harris and Willie Harris. Nieces Lisa and Michelle Harris and nephews Barry Harris, Willie Harris Jr., Antonio Harris. Devoted friends Joyce Jackson, Barbara Booker, Brenda Wynne, Gloria Anderson, and Lisa Sanchez Diaz and many other caring family members and friends.
