SOUTH GLENS FALLS
Byron Little Jr, 76, passed peacefully and unexpectedly on the morning of June 29th, 2024, at his home in South Glens Falls.
Byron was born in Harrisburg Pennsylvania to parents Byron Little Sr. and Katharine McDonnell Little. Byron’s young life with transitory because Byron Sr. was on active duty in the Air Force.
The family lived in numerous states throughout the U.S. while he was growing up. Upon Byron Sr’s retirement, the family settled in South Glens Falls, NY, and Byron graduated from South High and Adirondack Community College with an AAS Degree. Byron was a master carpenter, building beautiful homes for twenty years on Lake George and Crystal Lake for GJF Construction. He finished his career as a maintenance mechanic at SUNY Adirondack; a job he thoroughly enjoyed because of the camaraderie with his co-workers. Byron had a wonderful sense of humor that came naturally to him. He could lighten any occasion with his comedic impressions and practical jokes, but he was never brash or loud; always unassuming and quiet.
Byron was an artist, making puppets with his friend Dick Daley, and a musician, playing the ukulele, guitar and mandolin. He loved playing music with his brothers in law, playing army men and boats with his grandchildren, woodworking and reading. The New York Mets were his team, and he stuck with them through thick and thin. He especially loved the many visits to his family camp in the Adirondacks where he would fish and kayak on the river. He was a man who was generous of time and talent. A kindhearted gentle spirit, Byron strived to improve the lives of those he loved. He was loved by many furry friends over the years. He built a heated box to save his feral outdoor cat from the cold and gave her sustenance every day for more than a decade. When he moved, he moved her with him. He threw thousands of frisbees and tennis balls for the family border collies to catch and retrieve; just another example of his selflessness.
He was a wonderful partner, father, grandpa, and friend, who will be loved forever and greatly missed.
Besides his parents, Byron was predeceased by his brother, Ken Little, and sister in law, Patty Little.
He is survived by his wife Christine (Payne), daughters Kate Abbott and Erin Little, grandsons Rowan LeBlanc and Finn Abbott LeBlanc, brother Patrick Little of Louisville Ky, and nieces Meredith Little and Jennifer Little, and nephews Kevin Little and Ian Little.
Friends may call from 11 am to 1 pm on Tuesday July 16th, 2024 at M.B. Kilmer Funeral Home, 136 Main Street, South Glens Falls NY 12803. A memorial service will be conducted at 1 pm at the funeral home following the calling hours with the Very Rev. Joseph Busch, officiating.
