David F. Casey, 76, passed away on Thursday, June 27, 2024 at his home following a short illness.
Born March 2, 1948 in Glens Falls, NY, he was the son of the late David and Eileen (Kelleher) Casey.
Dave graduated from South Glens Falls High School as a 3 sport athlete in 1966. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in physical education from Ithaca College (Go Bombers!!) in 1970 where he was a member of the Phi Epsilon Kappa fraternity, and went on to receive his Masters degree with a concentration in athletic training in 1974.
Dave was employed as a physical education teacher from 1970-1979 at St. Mary’s Academy, and from 1999-2015 at The Abraham Wing School. He was also instrumental in contributing to many high school championship wins over numerous seasons of football, baseball, and basketball. In 2012 he was named Baseball Coach of the Year by The Post Star.
In addition to coaching students, Dave enjoyed a very successful career as the head athletic trainer of the Adirondack Red Wings of the American Hockey League from 1979-1993, the head athletic trainer of the Empire State Stallions Basketball team of the United States Basketball League in 1991, and as the head athletic trainer of the Adirondack Lumberjacks Baseball team of the Independent Baseball Team League from 1992-1993.
Dave was inducted into many sports halls of fame including the Adirondack Hockey Hall of Fame, the Capital Region Football Hall of Fame, The Glens Falls Grandstanders Hall of Fame, and the South Glens Falls Bulldog Pride Hall of Fame.
On March 30, 1996, Dave married Janice Parrott in Queensbury. In addition to attending countless sporting events together, they enjoyed traveling to Cape Cod, attending Red Sox games and going to Disney. Dave was an avid golfer and member of the Kingsbury National Golf Club, and enjoyed having lunch with his high school friends every two weeks. Although Dave will undoubtedly be remembered as a sports legend, he was most of all a devoted husband, brother, father, and grandfather who will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 28 years, Janice Casey, his children, David “Jeff” Casey (Nicole), Kelly Casey, Brian Casey (Anna), and Ryan Casey, his grandchildren, Genevieve Casey and Owen Casey, his siblings, Mary Ellen Toomey (Mark), and Maureen Casey, his uncle Larry Hayward, many nieces, nephews, and great-nephews, as well as his beloved yellow lab Bailey.
